Reaching For His Robe: Find Healing in Jesus

There have been seasons of my marriage where I have exhausted all my resources and energy attempting to fix a chronic wound in my relationship that continued to drain the life right out of me.

I’d ask friends for advice, read articles and follow 12-step programs, yet still be left bleeding out. Time and money spent. Wounds still unhealed.

That’s why when I re-read Luke 8:40-48 and the story of the bleeding woman who reached for Jesus’s robe, I was inspired, encouraged and convicted.

This woman knew and believed so fully in His healing power that she reached for His robe, pushing past the massive crowds, among which she was an outcast; the noise of her past, the current condition of her circumstances, just so she could touch the hem of her Savior.

She reached for Him.

Healing took place.

What’s even more powerful to me is how Jesus responds. He didn’t just let her touch Him, receive healing and quietly slip away unnoticed. He brought attention to her, requiring that she own the faith that had motivated her reach of boldness. The Bible commentary on this passage suggests that making it public could have also helped to restore her in society. She would no longer be known by or shunned for her infirmity.

He is caring and kind and oh so merciful. So, why don’t we reach for His robe first?
