Question: How young is too young? I am 22 and about to marry is dat an ok?

Dr. Kim: Brenda - Nancy and I were 19 and 21 respectively when we got engaged and we got married four months later.  We have been married forty years.  I honestly think it is more about maturity than age.  I have seen 50 year old couples  that should have not gotten married!  Certainly, there is a place where age is a factor.  Marriages younger that 20 years of age have a very high divorce rate.  So I would advise you this way:

• Do premarital counseling (my class is available online as an option).
• Ask close friends and family if they support your marriage. You need the support of those who are important to you
• Do either of you have financial debt?  Finances are the number one cause of divorce.
• Are you willing to commit to each other for life?

If you do each of these, I think you will have prepared well.
