As we get ready to welcome 2019, what are you thinking about? What do you think 2019 holds for you? Are you excited or do you dread it? Has 2018 been a good year or a rough one? What about your marriage? How would you rate it at the end of this year? All of us stand on the precipice of a new year with our own thoughts, dreams, desires, and fears. What does 2019 hold for the two of you?
I always look forward to the new year even though there have been some rough starts for me. Both my dad and my mom died in separate Januaries. When I was a college student my dad’s dad died right before Christmas. I had no idea how much I would miss him in that following year. There have also been many things I have looked forward to in a coming new year. Things with Nancy and our family. Going new places and experiencing new things. I guess over the years I see that there is a sort of balance between the things we can dread or fear and the things that we look forward to and enjoy.
Every year Nancy and I sit down and talk about the new year. We talk about our dreams for the year and what we would like to do. We talk about areas of our marriage that we would like to improve. Our anniversary is January 2nd, so a couple we have two new beginnings each year.
What about the two of you? What can you do today to make 2019 better for each of you and for your marriage? Why not take a little time over the next few days and talk about 2019? Then take all of it before God in prayer. If you do this and then if you are intentional throughout the new year, I think you will have a lot to celebrate this time next year.
Happy New Year to each of you!
