Cupcake Candle Making Instructions

Read the instructions all the way through and then begin making your candles. The candle wax will take around 30-45 to melt so begin this at the beginning of your date!

WE’VE PROVIDED YOU WITH…

  • 2 Mason jars

  • 2 Pre-waxed wicks

  • Soy wax flakes

  • Cupcake scented wax cubes

  • 1 large popsicle stick for stirring

YOU’LL NEED...

  • 2 Pencils, pens, or something similar to hold the wicks in place

  • Hot glue and hot glue gun, or basic craft glue

  • Scissors

  • Double boiler OR small pot & heat-proof bowl or heat-proof liquid measuring cup

OPTIONAL ITEMS...

  • Sprinkles

  • Glitter

  • Corn syrup

  • Paint brush

Step 1

(OPtional Step)

Use a paint brush to spread some corn syrup on the inside sides and bottom of the mason jars. Then sprinkle in sprinkles OR glitter (depending on how you’d like to decorate your jar) and spread the sprinkles or glitter around by holding the jar horizontally, slowly rolling the jar around. Add more sprinkles or glitter as needed until you have the desired look. Using a capped pen or the eraser side of a pencil, clear a small circle in the center of the bottom on the jar. (This is where you will place the bottom of the wick). Allow the jars to dry for 5-10 minutes.

STEP 2

Using a double boiler, or a make-shift* version with a pot and heat-proof liquid measuring cup (which works great!), melt 2 cups of the wax flakes and 4 of the cupcake scent cubes (meaning you will have 2 cupcake scented cubes and lots of wax flakes left over!). Pay close attention to the wax and stir often with your wooden Popsicle stick. DO NOT leave the popsicle stick sitting in the wax. Take it out when not stirring and place it somewhere safe. As the wax melts, add in a little more of the wax flakes, you want to have two full cups of melted wax to fill your two jars.

The wax will melt slowly and the scented cubes even slower. It will take a good 30-45 minutes for everything to melt completely. But don’t rush the process - use this time to do your Conversation Guide or Set The Mood with a Song Activity.

*NOTE you will have extra wax flakes even after filling up your measuring cup to two cups as it melts. You can save this and make another candle with your own container later, or make an extra candle or two now!

Step 3

While the wax is melting, use a hot glue gun (or basic craft glue) to glue your wicks to the bottom of each of your jars. Press down firmly and allowing it to dry. Use two pencils or pens to keep the wick centered in the candle.

Once the wax and the scented cubes have melted completely, pour the melted wax slowly into the jars. Try to pour it directly into the center and away from the sides.

STEP 4

Keep the pens or pencils across the tops of the jars tight next to the wick on each side, to keep the wicks centered.

STEP 5

Wait for your candles to dry completely (about two hours!), cut the wicks at the top of the jars, and enjoy!

**Keep an eye on the wicks as they dry making sure the pens/pencils don’t shift and cause the wick to shift.**

NOTE: If you feel like using all the wax you are welcome to use your own candle containers to do so (any heat proof glass container will work). To give you a reference of how much "candle" the wax flakes we've provided you with will make. I made these 2 candles with the amount of wax flakes we've provided: 1 regular size mason jar (16 oz) and 1 medium mason jar (12 oz). In comparison, we've supplied you with 2, 8 oz jars. The second photo below shows the 2 candles I made next to one 8 oz jar.
